Scope
The Israeli Ministry of Defense (MOD) called upon USACE Europe to lead renovations and new construction on Israeli Air Force Bases (IAFB) 1 and 2, respectively.
Conti Federal was instrumental in the renovation of facilities on these Air Force Bases. The team built a one-story central motor wing building, rehabilitated the North Gate entrance, constructed helicopter aprons and runways at IAFB 1 and performed taxiway renovations at IAFB 2.
The motor wing building included reinforced concrete foundation, specialized welded steel framing, flooring, ceilings, electrical and plumbing. When finished, the building stood at 12,379 square feet and included 7-foot high exterior reinforced concrete walls.
Conti Federal also installed entrance barriers, two security booths, one security check building and a parking area in IAFB 1’s North Gate. Conti Federal’s renovations at IAFB 2 included scraping, paving and painting of one runway and two helicopter aprons.
Conti Federal faced considerable challenges when working on two active Israel Ministry of Defense bases, including security clearances and logistic issues. Still, the team completed the project on schedule with no interruption to base operations. Key features of the project include:
Conti Federal benefitted the local community by actively pursuing work with local Israeli subcontractors, resulting in nearly 90% of work performed by the local work force.
