Conti Federal is currently performing a $44.7 million renovation of 60,000 square feet within the 120,000-square-foot historic Pride Hangar at Ellsworth AFB. This project is one of several major construction initiatives awarded to Conti Federal as part of a multi-year facilities upgrade supporting the Ellsworth AFB B-21 program.

The “Pride Hangar,” originally constructed to house B-36 aircraft, is being renovated to accommodate cutting-edge Weapons Loader Training (WLT) bays, complete with mock-ups of aircraft fuselages. This innovative space is designed to facilitate advanced training activities associated with weapons loading.

Conti Federal’s scope includes demolition and replacement of asphalt and concrete pavements, transformer and concrete pads, and bollards. Conti Federal’s renovation scope includes administrative, training, and utility areas as well as various secure areas. Additional tasks include addressing water intrusion issues with the existing hangar bay door, abatement or remediation of hazardous materials in and around the facility and making both internal and site-side infrastructural improvements. These improvements include site features, fire protection and suppression systems, and interior and exterior utilities.

To ensure precision, Conti Federal developed an erection plan using Building Information Modeling (BIM). Three-dimensional models of the hoisting and erection equipment are embedded in the BIM model to validate all critical lifts. This approach allows us to verify process durations and minimize risks associated with complex structural erection projects.

This Weapon Loader Training Facility is an essential component of Ellsworth AFB’s B-21 program, providing the infrastructure necessary for the Air Force to test and maintain the next generation of stealth technology. Conti Federal’s expertise in complex construction and coordination ensures the facility will support the Air Force’s mission for years to come.

Conti Federal prepared the structural steel final erection plan with Building Information Modeling (BIM), and three-dimensional models of the hoisting and erection equipment. This technology verifies the exact durations of the process to minimize schedule risks for complex structural erection projects.
