Conti Federal is currently constructing a cutting-edge 39,000-square-foot B-21 Fuels System Maintenance Dock at Ellsworth Air Force Base (AFB) in Rapid City, South Dakota. This project is a key component of the B-21 program, enhancing the Air Force’s maintenance and operational capabilities for next-generation stealth technology.
The facility features a single aircraft bay designed to support critical fuel systems maintenance for the B-21 aircraft. In addition to the hangar, the dock will include integrated back shop, administrative, and support spaces, all built to meet stringent Intelligence Community Directive (ICD/ICS 705) and Air Force Instruction (AFI 16-1404) standards for secure operations.
Conti Federal’s scope of work includes the construction of utilities and a new airfield apron, designed in compliance with Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS) and Department of Defense (DoD) Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), including high-performance and sustainable building standards.
The project team is addressing the presence of hazardous materials and contaminants on-site through comprehensive abatement plans, ensuring a safe construction environment. Infrastructure enhancements, such as upgraded utilities and foundational work, are seamlessly integrated into the project to support long-term facility operations.
Conti Federal employs advanced construction methods, including Building Information Modeling (BIM), to enhance efficiency and risk management. Careful coordination of construction activities ensures the continued operation of adjacent airfield facilities and mission-critical operations at Ellsworth AFB.
This Fuels System Maintenance Dock is one of several pivotal projects led by Conti Federal in partnership with the USACE Omaha District, reinforcing the infrastructure necessary to sustain the Air Force’s mission. Other projects include a Helicopter Squadron Operations facility at F.E. Warren Air Force Base and the Disaster Resiliency Program Formal Training Unit at Grand Forks Air Force Base.
