An EF-3 tornado tore across a 71-mile stretch of Georgia and struck Marine Corps Logistics Base, Albany––a critical Marine Corps depot that provides worldwide integrated logistics and supply chain and distribution management in support of United States operating forces. NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic, under its Global Contingency Construction Contract, initiated an emergency repair contract to provide recovery services to the base’s many damaged facilities.
Conti Federal provided disaster response and support services on this base involving structural, roofing, and finishing repairs, as well as utility upgrades to over 20 buildings such as the Georgia National Guard support buildings and the base fire house.
The team performed major structural and interior repairs on a 7,200 square foot building, replacing 115,000 square feet of roofs across four additional buildings, and repairing masonry on six buildings that were impacted by tornado debris. Conti demolished and replaced a 12,000 square foot pre-engineered metal building and replacing four roll up doors, windows, and the entranceway of the base firehouse. The team also replaced the handicap access on six buildings and replaced safety features such as damaged stair rails and handrails at various other locations across 19 warehouse structures.
Conti Federal accelerated the schedule for Building 1362’s repairs at NAVFAC’s request to successfully meet a ribbon cutting ceremony for the facility. Additionally, Conti Federal performed extensive structural and roofing repairs on the base firehouse while the facility was active and managed to avoid all interference with operations.
